✈️Airports and Airlines
Don’t make this all whizz air hate, don’t….well maybe a little.
Beyond airlines there are very few industries or areas of life where it is made so clear you will be served according to your rank and spending. Sure – There are high end hotels, restaurants and stores the world over but comparatively few where you are lined up side by side (physically in some cases) in this way and openly prioritised.
Different classes of travel are as old as time, and while spending a lot more will almost always get you more leg room and a better meal there are micro classes and priority groups at all levels. Dearest Ryanair I don’t hate you as much as many, we have had good times but did you really need to take away the little net on the back of the seat where I stored my drink and headphones? And when in the hell did all airlines, particularly but not exclusively budget airlines make it so difficult to know what you are actually getting when you compare.
More on that on the booking page but often speedy boarding is pointless as you end up queuing in the same box room as everyone else seconds before the plane was due to fly and nobody is leaving any quicker.
Those Wizz people have recently and expensively highlighted some newer issues, the twinned delights of overselling and closing the check in desk or bag drop early. In short – really do get there very early, you’ve earned a pint and they won’t help you at all should they deem you to be late by an ever changing margin.
I generally prioritise a longer stay or better hotel over flight class but I don’t doubt it could be very nice on long trips. This might be my first hint if any airlines are watching 🤣
I do have a favourite airport, London City lost that role with it’s convenience being undone with poor service and very poor food, however it would have struggled to compete with Tokyo Haneda which was fun and had all kinds of amazing food. I mention food a lot and may add a page on that.
Least favourite may be Malpensa , barely detectable levels of help and service and very early boarding but many smaller airports are also quite poor due to a lack of services and space. Bordeaux is lovely but you’ll need to wait outside if you get there early.
Any good or bad experiences? Any whacky features? Let me know .
